The High-Value Nutrition National Science Challenge (HVN) is seeking suitable applicants for a member of its Science Leadership Team to champion the Vision Mātauranga policy across HVN.

The role of the Science Leadership Team is to act as an internal expert science advisory group within the Challenge - ensuring and building science excellence across our investments, providing national leadership in specified areas and facilitating engagement with researchers and stakeholders nationally and internationally.

HVN has focussed on the indigenous innovation theme of Vision Mātauranga seeking to support Māori-owned food and beverage businesses grow their export revenues through the scientific validation of food-health relationships that can be marketed to global consumers.

The research profile of HVN includes market and consumer insights relating to food-for-health in export markets, nutritional biochemistry (including defining nutrition-responsive biomarkers), clinical validation, food science and technology, product and business development of high-value foods for health.

The role will be expected to have established or emerging expertise and leadership in at least one of these areas and be able to demonstrate their potential contribution to the HVN mission and the Vision Mātauranga strategy within it.

The process to select a Māori Science Leadership Team member for HVN is likely to be iterative and involve both a written application, face-to-face discussions with shortlisted candidates and approval by the HVN Board. The successful candidate will then be given the opportunity to develop and lead an original research project which is likely to involve a negotiated process with support from colleagues across HVN, and external assessment of quality and relevance (similar to the processes used for other Science Leadership Team members research programmes).

Expressions of Interest from suitable candidates are requested by noon on 18 April using the template provided here. If applicants considering applying wish to discuss the role in advance, then please contact us on hvn@auckland.ac.nz and we will arrange a call to discuss.
