Dr Simone Bayer was recently awarded the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology Inc’s Young Investigator award at the Gastro2020 Conference awards dinner for her paper COMFORT-PSYKI: Psyllium and SunGold® kiwifruit are equally effective treatments of constipation in adults. Dr Simone Bayer is a Researcher for the Department of Medicine at the University of Otago, Christchurch. She was born in Germany, and came to Christchurch in 2009. Simone has a background in nutrition science and a PhD in Pathology & Biomedical research, which she completed at the University of Otago, Christchurch, under the tutelage of Christine Winterbourn for the Free Radical Research Group. As part of HVN and the gastrointestinal research team lead by Professor Richard Gearry, her current focus is on the pathology and treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
